Meet Ethan Chang

Ethan Chang is one of Trainstein’s strongest young chess coaches, with a current FIDE rating of 2100+ and extensive experience competing at both national and international levels. He has represented Australia at the World Youth Championship, Asian Youth Championship, and Oceania Youth Championship, and has achieved outstanding results including 3rd Place U20 at the 2026 Oceania Youth Chess Championships, =4th in the U18 Australian Junior Chess Championships 2026, and =3rd at the 2025 NSW Open.

As a coach, Ethan brings recent high-level tournament experience into his lessons, helping students understand not only the right moves, but also how strong players think during real games. His teaching is especially valuable for students who want to improve their calculation, tournament confidence, opening understanding, and practical decision-making. Ethan’s calm and focused coaching style makes complex chess ideas easier for young players to understand and apply.
