Meet Tariq James Rahim
Tariq James Rahim is a dedicated chess coach and a double-degree student at Macquarie University, studying Science and Engineering with majors in Software Engineering and Astrophysics. He spent his high school years abroad, completing his IGCSE at Harrow International School Beijing after living in both Oman and China. Though introduced to chess at age five, Tariq’s passion for the game deepened during high school, and he now plays actively with a Chess.com rating of 1400.
Since joining Trainstein Chess College, Tariq has coached dozens of students and takes pride in providing individualised support to help each student improve at their own pace. He believes the beauty of chess lies in its elegant simplicity and deep complexity. His favourite moments as a coach are when students light up with excitement—whether it's spotting a winning tactic or finally mastering a challenging concept they can use in real games.
Tariq brings both patience and passion to every lesson, helping students grow with clarity, confidence, and joy.
